A while back I was given some vanilla beans and a cool bottle to make my own pure vanilla flavoring. I bought some premium vodka, sliced the beans lengthwise and put them in a dark, cool place to cure.
I was reminded by fellow blogger The Zero Waste Chef (http://zerowastechef.com/2014/09/04/diy-vanilla/) that it was probably time to check on my precious vanilla.
I opened the top and…wow…it smelled amazing! I believe I’m going to let mine cure a while longer and then I’m going to make vanilla sugar with the beans that I can use when baking for the holiday season.
I can’t wait to use it in some of my cookie recipes this winter!
